Preparation time: 15 minutes
Baking time: 25–30 minutes
Servings: 8–10 brownie pieces
Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup cocoa powder
2 tablespoons Rootleys Beetroot Powder
½ cup powdered sugar
½ teaspoon baking powder
A pinch of salt
½ cup melted butter or neutral cooking oil
½ cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
¼ cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
2 tablespoons chopped walnuts, optional
Method
Preheat the oven to 175°C.
Grease a small baking tin and line it with baking paper.
Add flour, cocoa powder, Rootleys Beetroot Powder, baking powder and salt to a mixing bowl.
Mix the dry ingredients until evenly combined.
In another bowl, combine melted butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla essence.
Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients.
Fold gently until a smooth brownie batter forms. Avoid overmixing.
Add chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
Transfer the batter to the prepared baking tin and spread it evenly.
Bake for 25–30 minutes.
Insert a toothpick into the centre. It should come out with a few moist crumbs.
Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting them into squares.
Baking Tips
Do not overbake the brownies, as this can make them dry. For a softer and fudgier texture, remove them from the oven when the centre is still slightly moist.
You can also add white chocolate chips for a stronger colour contrast or top the brownies with melted chocolate after cooling.
Serving Suggestion
Serve the brownies slightly warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream or chocolate sauce. They also taste delicious with tea, coffee or a glass of chilled milk.
Storage
Store the brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. For longer storage, refrigerate them and warm each piece slightly before serving.
Why Use Beetroot Powder in Baking?
Rootleys Beetroot Powder is easy to mix into cakes, brownies, cookies and muffins. It adds natural colour without the extra preparation required for fresh beetroot and helps maintain a consistent flavour and texture in every batch.
Final Note
These naturally pink beetroot brownies are simple to prepare, visually attractive and full of rich chocolate flavour. They are a great choice whenever you want to make an everyday baked treat look more special.
